Michelle Wie: Can hit a ball a mile but is terrified of Clowns
What do fans think of when they see Michelle Wie at a LPGA tournament? For years, fans would line up at the putting green waiting for Michelle to walk over to them and take a selfie with them or to sign an autograph. As a regular tournament go-er, we found Michelle to be a hard worker on the putting green and she is relentless when it comes to putting practice that it is almost impossible to get an autograph or a selfie with her.
In the last two years, Michelle has become a better putter. She said putting is now a game to her and she has a lot of fun with it. One thing you will notice with Michelle's putting stance is that she has lost the 'tabletop' method where she bend at the waist and have a flat back, hunched over like a tabletop. Her new stance is more natural and she looks more relaxed hovering over her ball. Her stroke is more smoother and she is confident that the roll will be towards the hole at the right speed. All that results to more putts made and lower scores.
Another improvement we see with Michelle is her setup when she hits her driver, fairway woods and hybrids. Her body is no longer contorted when she swings the club. Her old swing looked painful. She has so much power that it looked painful when she torqued her body. We were afraid she would break something and we aren't talking about her clubs.
Michelle is currently working with her longtime coach, David Leadbetter who says Michelle prefers to work on her own swing. Her putting mechanics was her own and she has figured out how to swing the club to optimize ball flight and distance. Fans can see KT tape on her right leg which indicates pain. There's a lot of force on that knee every time she swings a club. Hopefully she can work out a balance of less pain and same distance.
With Nike out of the club making industry, Michelle has a new bag full of Callaway clubs including a GBB Epic driver and a variety of Mack Daddy wedges.

Fan Tip: If you're at the putting green and you see Michelle Wie practicing her putts, try to wave down her caddie without disturbing Michelle. Ask him if you can get an autograph or a selfie with Michelle when she takes a break. Her caddie will let you know whether it will be a long wait or a short wait. Get your camera ready and be patient.
